UGLY Processed Images
For the scavenger hunt, I spent time walking around campus, downtown Provo, and my neighborhood to take pictures. Everywhere I went, I kept my eyes peeled for interesting things that could help me with this first assignment. One thing I learned is when photography is on the brain, my camera needs to be handy more often. There were times in my normal activities that I wished I had my camera and missed out on some incredible opportunities for pictures.
I learned a lot from this assignment. First of all, I learned that taking as many pictures as possible is important because with different angles and viewpoints, there are more opportunities for a better final product. I was surprised by how many pictures I liked from angles I had to force myself to take in order to experiment. There were also many pictures I thought would be great that just were not. I also learned that the better the original image is, the less you need to process the picture. I took these pictures with the basic mode of my camera, so I did not have much control over what was happening with the photographs. Just from that, I learned how important it is to have control over what I am shooting. In many cases, I really wished I had more control and sensed that the final outcome could have been so much greater if the camera had not been the controller. I also learned it does not take much editing to make the picture good. Just a few tweaks with the blacks and whites can help it. Too much makes it look very fake. I experimented a lot with the editing, but never changed a whole lot because it just looked too fake and detracted from the reality of the image.
